The American Dietetic Association Must be Stopped in it's Tracks
Job Killing WDA July 2011 Legislative Draft
The field of nutrition extends beyond any one group, making it inappropriate for any
single group or organization to attempt to regulate the field in their own self-interest.

Multi National Corporate Sponsors Want this Legislation Passed |
Fact I: In the spring of the 2010 Wisconsin Legislature nearly passed legislation which would have made educating or teaching a about consumer the benefits of sound nutrition ILLEGAL except by a Licensed Registered Dietitian. Can you imagine! Guess who paid the lobbyists hired to pass this goofy legislation? The Wisconsin Dietetic Association (WDA) - Registered Dietitians trade organization. The WDA is the state affiliated of the American Dietetic Association. Corporate sponsors: Cocoa Cola, Pepsi, Mars Candy, processed food and pharmaceutical companies. |

Fact II: For 20 years the hierarchy of the WDA attempted to convince legislators they are the only practitioners capable and qualified to provide nutritional counseling. Can you imagine! They are telling legislators that regardless of your own level of education and experience only Registered Dietitians are qualified to provide nutritional counseling. |

Fact III: During the past 20 years the Wisconsin Legislature has not approved this legislation. The members of the WDA will once again, in 2011 – 2012 try to convince Legislators they are the sole authority on nutrition. The secrets of a nutritionally sound diet can only be attained by seeing a Registered Dietitian. |
Excerpts from WDA letter sent to Legislators Nov 19, 2010. Click here to see letter. July 2011 legislative draft: |
"When it comes to healthy lifestyle choices, there is no room for government mandates. Prevention and wellness is critical to lower health care costs and should be promoted, but healthy living is ultimately a personal choice. But at the very least, Wisconsin citizens in need of advanced nutrition care for chronic disease, and illness should be aware if their providers are properly educated, trained and licensed by the state." Lynn Edwards, RD, CD WDA Executive Coordinator Comments: Note WDA statement, stating no government control and advocating licensing - government control in the same paragraph? |
